Twitter Etiquette - Seven Tips to Tweeting Well

Think before you tweet. The Internet is full of stories of people who tweeted things they should not have, which resulted not only in serious embarrassment but also trouble for them. So take a few minutes to think before pressing that send button.

Don’t make your tweets too personal. While Twitter is a great way of building relationships with your customers, there is such a thing as too much information. Don’t tweet inappropriate content.

Don’t tweet too much. Don’t flood your twitter followers’ inboxes with inconsequential tweets. Make sure that every tweet you send is meaningful and contains relevant or useful content.

Don’t fill your tweets with abbreviations and text language. Remember that you want your texts to sound professional. So use proper grammar and spelling in your texts and abbreviate only when absolutely necessary. And don’t use terms like LOL or OMG.

If a customer tweets a complaint, don’t address it in public. Address their concerns using direct messaging in order to avoid conducting what could be a difficult dialogue in public.

Be polite. If somebody retweets one of your Twitter messages, always send them a thank you message.

Reply promptly. If someone tweets you a question or a message, reply to them as soon as possible.
